Flora

Vegetation at the top of Gunung Machinchang is unique because most trees here are short, similar to the heath forest type. A total of 60 species form 40 families were recorded at Gunung Machinchang, among the interesting flora found at the top of Gunung Machinchang are Tongkat Ali, Kelat Bukit and Podo Bukit. Rare species included Tembusu Bukit, Wool Flower, Tepus Tanah, Pepanggil Langkawi and Mertas also found here.


Langkawi is home to one of the richest mangrove communities in Malaysia. In the Kilim Mangrove Complex, a total of 55 species from 40 genera and 27 families of mangrove plants were recorded. This represents about 53% species of the total mangrove flora in Malaysia and about 48% of world’s total mangrove species.
