8th December 2011 – Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak recently has launced Langkawi Tourism Blueprint. In this blueprint among 14 initiative are Iconic Geopark, which will focusing in developing Geopark Discovery Center in Kilim Karst Geoforest Park and upgrading infrastructure at three geoforest parks, Machinchang Cambrian, Kilim Karst and Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park. A comprehensive conservation plan for Langkawi will be develop and enforce with new Park Ranger. Public education will be targeted to local community and tourists.
20-28 November 2011 - 1st International Conference on African & Arabian Geoparks was held in El-Jadida, Morocco. During this conference Arabian Geoparks Network was launched aims to help the Arabian country in their effort to bring together various parties with an interest in fostering geoparks in the region. Previously, in 2009 during a meeting of the African Association of Women in Geoscience, African Geoparks Network was established. The creation of this new network gives testimony to the successful collaboration of these regional and global networks.
